The Best of Robertson

About Robertson

Good little suburb with great access to everything

The outer southern suburb of Robertson is located approx. twelve kilometres south of Brisbane’s central business district. It is a fairly small suburb, only covering about 1.7 squared kilometres. The suburb’s boundaries include Kessels Road to the north, McCullough Street to the south, Mains Road to the east, and Troughton Road to the west.

Musgrave Road cuts straight through the middle of the suburb. Robertson is surrounded by the neighbouring suburbs of Nathan, MacGregor, Coopers Plains, and Sunnybank.

The suburb was not officially named ‘Robertson’ until 1967. It was named after the Vice Chancellor of the University of Queensland and foundation member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Doctor William Nathaniel Robertson, by the Queensland Place Names Board. The suburb of Robertson, during the mid-1960s, was the un-subdivided southern section of Sunnybank. The original suburb featured a drive-in picture theatre located at the Musgrave Road and Troughton Road junction. Robertson today is nearly a completely residential suburb. This residential development does not happen without many other developments throughout the suburb during the years.

In 1975, a shopping centre, Sunnybank Plaza, opened in the south-east corner of the suburb. That same year, the Griffith University’s Nathan campus was developed just outside of the suburb’s boundaries. Following this in 1980, a State Primary School and a State Preschool Centre were opened within the suburb. All these developments saw a threefold increase in Robertson’s population over the years 1976 to 1986. Being a mostly residential suburb, there are plenty of great real estate opportunities. Although small, the suburb is a well sought after area because of its tight knit community, multiculturalism, and great location.
